Description

A 1-way 3.3V relay module with optocoupler isolation provides electrical isolation between the control circuit(e.g: a microcontroller) and the relay itself, allowing the controller to safety switch higher voltage and current loads. This is achieved through the use of an optocoupler, a device that uses light to transmit signals between the two circuits, preventing electrical connections and potential damage.

Optocoupler:
An optocoupler is an electronic component that utilizes light to transfer signals between two circuits that are electrically isolated. It consists of a light-emitting diode (LED) and a photodetector (e.g., a phototransistor).
Isolation:
The optocoupler creates an electrical barrier, preventing direct current flow between the control circuit and the relay’s load circuit. This is crucial when controlling high-voltage or high-current loads from a low-voltage controller.
Function:
When a signal is applied to the control circuit, the LED in the optocoupler turns on, and the light emitted by the LED activates the photodetector, which then triggers the relay to switch.
